Farewell To My Blog, But Not To Technology

Image
It was a good run, I learned many things from this class and tasks I did, or should I say, I created? The syllabus was pushing my creativity at all times. Much more than the last year's equivalent of this course. The process was hard at times, although rather rewarding when you completed and submitted your activity, even commentated on by the instructor later on, which is a unique feeling. My favorite task was preparing the material about the Flipped Classrooms (FC). I see FC as an entirely new platform where I can use what I learned about the innovative side of the ELT this/last year.  My least favorite task is preparing an activity for the Corpus method, I think this method can be fruitful when used with supportive elements like designing quizzes, and jigsaw puzzles about the corpora material students engaged with. However, I don't think it would stand alone in the class as a platform like FC. I think taking this course is a must if the teacher candidates want to be competi...

Using Generative AI for Task Creation

Image
Today I am going to share my experiences about using creative AI for preparing a task for my future students. In this task as always, we used Canva . Also, we learned about Canvas Generative AI tools .  We created a photo about our subject and then made our future students brainstorm and reflect on their thoughts of the image that was generated by the AI. The image of Muhammed Ali we created with the Generative AI After they discussed, we wanted to reveal that the photo was designed by the AI, and finally, we asked them to create their own images. Also, we gave them more generative AI tools for their task.  In the end, they compared their images to each other, hopefully enjoying the process of using the AI themselves. Thanks to my pair Toprak Kişioğlu for assisting me in this task.

Artificial/Virtual Reality Material Preparing Experience

Image
Preparing material for this concept was quite strange. Because it felt like preparing material for the school trip. Maybe it is a kind of a school trip but in the digital environment. Once again, our main tool was Canva , it is like the glue for using different tools at once We used 360-degree videos from   YouTube . They were recorded in historical places of Rome for our artificial trip (we also used a 3D model). Then we reinforced our material with the questions that related to these places and what students experienced during their digital visit.  Before giving the homework, we briefly mentioned the history of pizza and used a 3D model of pizza slice . our homework, which is about their experiences with AR trip It was a very interesting experience, and the material we prepared can be used in the Flipped Classrooms  (click if you want to read my experiences with the Flipped Classrooms). Thanks to my friend Toprak Kişioğlu for assisting me check-out his blog here

Flipped Classroom Material Experience

Image
Today, I will share my flipped classroom (FC) and my experience in preparing material for it.  As a concept, FC is rather new for English Language Teaching and teaching in general, although I found many regular-life-like things and tools to utilize to enhance my flipped classroom material. Maybe it is because me and my generation are so entangled with the digital environments. I thought that this was like a natural teaching method for me. In the future, I think with a more digital world this idea will gain more importance in teaching circles and me. FC has many advantages like providing the field independence for the students, stress-free task creating, and execution for both teachers and students. Also, the interactive digital environment focusing more on the attributes the students have may enhance the general attitude towards the learning subject. Since digital worlds don't have limitations physical classrooms have. However, this digital world comes at the cost of digital ...

After Years, My Experience With the Creasting a Corpus Based Worksheet

Image
It's been a long time since I left my blog page, I didn't think that I would return here, to be honest, it was a surprise, a fine surprise I may say. I missed these kinds of assignments which make us interact with the technology, and today I am going to talk about our vocabulary-focused and corpus-based worksheet material design.  We used Canva as a collaborative tool while designing our worksheet, it was very entertaining and challenging to do at the same time since we had not done anything like this since last year. As a corpus we used COCA . Considering the easy interface, it's simpler and more suitable for our target age group who are prep-school students. We are hoping that our students will be able to get a basic vocab for talking about travel with our worksheet.  After seeing examples from our friends in an online class, we kind of struggled since our first draft was so horrible compared to our teacher's explanations and criticisms of our friends' works. Not...

In The End It Matters...

Image
To be honest, at the start of the year, I thought this class would be like last year's technology class, which we took at the same place. It included a curriculum where our aim was to obtain general knowledge only about technology. However, this much educational use of technology presented in this year's Educational Technology Class was a surprise for me. The nice one, while I look back to it just now. I mean, I lost count of the activities we did. Of course, I should not forget to thank our instructor for organizing these, and not leaving us alone in this process.  When it comes to activities, I liked the ones that led me to use and combine tools for fun and proficiency. Certainly, all of these activities were around creating stories and materials, and all offered several tools but more interfaces became adjustable, which led to creativity, I think, and more fun I got. After considering this, I can say my favorite activity was creating a digital story. In addition, talking ...

I Created Magazine Cover and It Was Terrible, So I Made It Agaın

Image
Making a Magazine Cover was one of the last things I expected from this year's Educational Technology Class. Although, it makes sense since teachers give students homework like this all the time. However, they are usually done in the physical environment. Ah, we have memories of that. Telling our parents we forgot to do our "performance homework" the last day before the deadline and watching them make our homework with scissors and glue all over the place while they constantly rebuke us.  Including that, now I think our assignment makes perfect sense. Since new generations are so settled in the digital world, we can use interfaces like Canva  to replace these outdated methods for homework which requires physical engagement. Also, we can observe that students hate more and more from this style of homework as well. When it comes to telling you about my own experience, I think I misunderstood the meaning of making a magazine cover on my first try. It was more like a book co...

The Lazy Knight and Digital Storytelling

Image
With relief, I and my friend Toprak can say creating a digital story was our favorite activity in this year's educational technology class. Especially the use of multiple digital tools to make the preparation process fun, and the story better. The tools we used were; Discord - for communication  Vegas Pro - for video editing Audacity - for audio editing  Pixton - for creating a digital story  Youtube - for sharing our product and finding sound/CGI material Using these tools to combine several materials from a wide spectrum of the internet was a very entertaining experience. However, we had a problem with the resolution, because Pixton asked for payment. Of course, we screenshotted our way out of that which resulted in low-resolution pictures. The video editing program helped with that though,(we took scene pictures one by one and placed them in our editing program). As we can see, using multiple tools in a digital environment always saves the day! Finding sources wa...

Podcast Recording Adventure

Image
Since I was doing video editing for youtube from time to time, I was used to preparing media content for user's entertainment. However, it was the first time that I created a podcast for educational purposes with a dear partner who is my friend Toprak . We wrote the funny story first, divided it into two, then recorded each part individually, and edited the audio file with several software such as Audacity and Vegas Pro 17. Combining these gave us an important advantage in exceeding the limits of our creativity. Also, it was fun to feel free to adjust and use several digital tools for our purposes. Using and discovering digital tools which were enjoyable and efficient for our case would be very advantageous for the formation of future education theories as well, including the fact that students will live much more on their screens and explore infinite digital worlds on these.  We should be able to include daily life in our education according to the ELT education I get. However, in...

My Experience With Padlet and Short Ellaboration of The Use of Collaborative Writing For Learning Purposes

Image
Hi, Today I would like to discuss the Padlet experience I had recently, and my humble thoughts about the overall effect the collaborative writing tools have on the development of 21st-century learning  It can be a rush statement but for me, and my friends, this experience was much easier than wiki writing because of the modern interface and tools it brings for creators. It was also much more suitable for collaborative writing, considering me and my peers don't have to wait for locks and can actually write together unlike what happened in wiki writing.  When it comes to improving learners writing skills, the activities I and my friends did which we mentioned in our blogs, were so helpful. However, there is an important fact about our profession and age while we are doing these activities. It can be very helpful for self-aware and capable learner groups such as college students and adult learners. Although, young students who would have shorter attention spans in the futu...
